Applying the Doughnut for school development (2)
A webinar hosted by Sustainability Education about applying the Doughnut in school context. Includes slides and video.
How can schools use the Doughnut Economics model to guide school sustainable development?
This webinar hosted by Sustainability Education's Case Study for Change series, explores how the Doughnut model can provide a clearer mission for school sustainable development, be used as a design tool for improving student and staff action, and enable various school actors to see the relationship of their diverse actions to the big picture.
There is a video and slides from the webinar the slides. In them, there is an overview of the importance of identifying a model for sustainable development for schools, and an explanation of how the four lenses of the Doughnut model can be used by schools to guide action in a holistic way. Concrete examples are given for the application of the model in Strothoff International School, a small International Baccalaureate school near Frankfurt, Germany.

I am a secondary school social studies teacher at a progressive independent school in Portland, Oregon, USA. My teaching revolves around environmentalism and policy. I have used "Donut Economics" in my classes for a few years, largely as a critique of dominant economics ideas and as a way of rethinking labor. I am interested in developing a secondary-level social studies curriculum around Donut Economics. The idea would be to replace nationalist, growth-centered focuses with outlooks privileging sustainability, global citizenship and social justice. Has anyone already done this work? I am hoping to meet with like-minded educators (anywhere in the world!) in Summer 2023. I recently began a Tiny Forest at my school. This is a Miyawaki-method "pocket forest" of native trees and shrubs. I have developed curriculum for lower and middle-school students around reforestation and Indigenous uses of plants.

Hello! Olá! I am a firm believer in the Doughnut Economics - as a good rogue economist!! I have two children and I really do want Economic thinking and acting to change, to see a clean, fair, just and sustainable World for them to grow and thrive in! Utopia? I am interested in rural food poverty in "rich countries" and how we can wiggle out of it using the Doughnut! I also believe that children are our future, and we should strive to include "doughnuts" in our children's education, as early and as often as possible. So, if you can, please HELP!
