Mehr Zusammen Gemeinsam: The Donut Berlin Festival, 16-18 September (Past)

From 16-18 September 2021 we are organising the first Donut Berlin Festival under the motto Mehr Zusammen Gemeinsam (More Together in Common). We want Berliners to know about the positive, transformative power of the Doughnut Economy and what's possible for a more liveable, regenerative city. The “Donut” (German spelling) is an economic and social model aimed at a good life for all within planetary boundaries.

Kicking things off on 16 September is a conversation with Kate Raworth and Tino Sehgal about how imagination can change the world. From this vision, we shift focus to socio-ecological change, which is already happening all across Berlin. Then on 18 September we will gather on the Hobrechtbrücke and demand nothing less than a Donutopia for Berlin!

To kick off the Festival, we are hosting a salon in collaboration with the Arts & Nature Social Club and the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, with Kate Raworth, author of "Doughnut Economics. 7 Ways to Think like a 21st Century Economist", and Berlin artist Tino Sehgal.

What does it mean for people and their way of life in Berlin to have the well-being of the whole planet in mind? We will address this question in continuation of our series of events on the four Doughnut Economy perspectives - local, social, ecological and global. Here we explore together, along the perspectives of artist Almut Linde and futurologist Felix Beer of the IZT, options for redefining the alienated and exploitative relationship of humans with nature.

On the Hobrechtbrücke between Kreuzberg and Neukölln we will gather with neighbouring Kiez initiatives and activist and tell stories of future Berlin as though we’re already living it, showing how the Doughnut Economy can be used as a tool to shape a socially and ecologically city. Our city’s culture is already so rich in self-organised change - we now challenge politics and administration to embrace and promote it. We openly invite people to experience Donut Berlin in a playful and humorous way - young and old, in visual, acoustic, and culinary ways. We want to inspire as many people as possible with our vision and courage for future possibilities.
