Exploring Doughnut Economics: Prospects for Athens (Past)
Part of the Global Doughnut Days initiative
Please Note: This event has now finished and can no longer be joined.
We are delighted to invite you to Athens Global Doughnut Days event, where we will bring together key representatives from government, business and civil society to explore the concept of Doughnut Economics and how this could be implemented in Athens to create a socially just and ecologically safe city.
The event is part of Global Doughnut Days, a multi-day, community-led festival, to be held online and in-person around the world, centered on Doughnut Economics. Last year Global Doughnut Day saw participation in 26 countries, 56 places, over 100 events and more than 4000 people on one day.
This year the team of Greece Doughnut Economics partners up with Ilektra Kouloumpi, Senior Global Expert in Doughnut Economics, and Common Space and Participatory Lab to create the first ever event in Athens, and held at ETERON - the Institute for Research and Social Change.
The event will present the Doughnut model and how it has been successfully implemented in Amsterdam, and other cities. Following the presentation, there will be a discussion with representatives and organisations from the city of Athens, exploring how such a model could help the city develop in an ecologically sustainable and socially just way.
The goal of the event is to lay the groundwork for creating a Doughnut model for Athens, with the participation of diverse groups, initiatives, and organisations in collaboration with the city's municipality.
The language of the event is in Greek.

About Doughnut Economics
The Doughnut offers a goal of what it means for humanity to thrive in the 21st century between social and ecological limits. Kate Raworth’s 2017 book, Doughnut Economics: seven ways to think like a 21st century economist, explored the economic thinking needed to bring humanity into the Doughnut, drawing together insights from diverse economic perspectives in a way that everyone can understand.
